PARIS: Mawhiba, an endowment organization that aims to nurture talented Saudi students in the scientific field, has signed a partnership agreement with UNESCO to foster science, technology, engineering and mathematics education across Arab countries.
The agreement was signed on July 19 in Paris by Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al-Subail, Mawhiba deputy secretary-general for business development and communication, and Lidia Arthur Brito, UNESCO鈥檚 assistant director-general for natural sciences, Mawhiba said in a news release carried by the Saudi Press Agency.
Mawhiba is the short name for the King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity, which was organized in 1999 in honor of 萝莉视频鈥檚 founding king.
Brito said that the partnership aimed to enhance STEM education for students from 6th grade to 12th grade across Arab states, 鈥漟ocusing on refining their scientific knowledge, nurturing creativity, and fostering critical thinking.鈥
It sought 鈥漷o provide young people with the necessary knowledge and capabilities and to motivate them to use science, technology, engineering and mathematics to meet global challenges,鈥 she said.
Brito said that the experience would help in exchanging these experiences globally, adding that 鈥漷here is potential for expanding these efforts to Africa and other parts of the world to promote sustainable development goals.鈥
Special attention would be given to empowering Arab girls and young women, ensuring they had equal opportunities to excel in STEM fields, she said.
Mawhiba has identified 97,000 gifted students out of more than 300,000 tested in more than 100 cities and villages across the Kingdom. Its sponsorship of more than 54,000 students and its participation in international science competitions for talented youth has reaped global recognition for the Kingdom.聽
Saudi students have so far won more than 397 medals and prizes in these competitions, developed in excess of 16,000 ideas, acquired 15 patents, and more than 1,000 Saudi students were accepted in the world鈥檚 top 50 prestigious universities in distinguished disciplines that met the needs of national development plans, the SPA report said.
Mawhiba Secretary-General Amal bint Abdullah Al-Hazzaa emphasized the shared commitment to empowering young Arab minds and advancing sustainable development through education and innovation. She underscored the importance of this collaboration within the framework of Saudi Vision 2030.
Central to the initiative is the MAWHIBA-UNESCO Online STEM Oasis, which will serve as a global platform for local, national and regional science and engineering fairs.聽
The partnership will focus on training Arab science teachers to lead research and guide students in scientific projects, thereby enhancing the overall quality of STEM education, the Mawhiba news release said.
鈥淢awhiba is committed to expanding the use of the UNESCO Open Science Portal and the UNESCO Science-2-Innovation Network to build the capacity of young scientists and women in STEM education globally.
鈥淥ver the past three years, Mawhiba has supported 839 students from Arab states through enriching STEM programs, setting a precedent for regional cooperation and development in STEM education,鈥 it added.
By joining forces with UNESCO, Mawhiba aims to amplify its ability to address global challenges such as climate change, health crises and technological disruptions, it said.

JEDDAH: With digital innovation taking place at a rapid pace, Awaser, a mobile application developed in 萝莉视频, is at the forefront of a quiet transformation in the Kingdom鈥檚 matchmaking traditions.
It offers a modern approach to marriage, but remains firmly rooted in cultural and religious values.
Founded by psychiatrist Dr. Mohammed Alolayan, Awaser is not just a dating platform but a dedicated space for individuals and families with the intention of forming lasting marriages.
鈥淭here鈥檚 a clear need, and many people are ready to embrace technology, so long as it honors our values. Awaser allows them to do both.鈥 (Supplied)
With features tailored to 萝莉视频鈥檚 cultural norms and a strong emphasis on privacy, the app introduces a respectful and structured alternative to traditional matchmaking.
Speaking about the inspiration behind creating the first app of its kind, Alolayan said: 鈥淎s a trained psychiatrist, I鈥檝e spent years exploring human psychology and understanding the deep emotional challenges people face, especially in midlife, around intimacy and the question of 鈥榃ho should I be with?鈥
鈥淟istening to countless stories from patients and online followers, I realized how difficult it is for many to find a suitable partner within the traditional framework. That鈥檚 what inspired me to create Awaser.鈥
HIGHLIGHTS
鈥 Awaser gives users the tools to search based on preferences unique to Saudi society, including regional origin, family background, education, sect, and tribal affiliation.
鈥 This approach blends technology with cultural traditions, creating a platform that speaks to both the younger generation and their families.
Unlike typical matchmaking apps that rely on algorithms to suggest potential partners, Awaser gives users the tools to search based on preferences unique to 萝莉视频 society, including regional origin, family background, education, sect, and tribal affiliation.
This approach blends technology with cultural traditions, creating a platform that speaks to both the younger generation and their families.
Alolayan said: 鈥淎waser does not offer matchmaking in the conventional sense. Instead, it elevates traditional matchmaking by making it more accessible and efficient.
Dr. Mohammed Alolayan
鈥淚t鈥檚 a platform that respects Saudi customs while empowering individuals and families to make informed choices.鈥
One of the app鈥檚 most distinctive features is the ability for families to create and manage accounts on behalf of their children, a model that preserves the essence of traditional matchmaking while increasing the chances of finding a suitable match.
This family-first approach has resonated strongly with conservative users seeking to maintain trust throughout the process.
The app operates on a paid subscription model, which Alolayan believes ensures the quality and seriousness of its community. 鈥淲e implemented a payment wall to ensure serious participation and prevent random or unserious users,鈥 he said.
鈥淭rust is crucial. That鈥檚 why users must verify with a Saudi mobile number and OTP (One-Time Password), and all communications are encrypted and automatically deleted after 30 days of inactivity.鈥
Privacy is a key concern for users in 萝莉视频, particularly when it comes to online interactions between men and women.
Awaser addresses this by giving users complete control over their profiles and conversations, with no human intervention from the app鈥檚 management team. Conversations cannot begin without mutual consent, and all user data remains private and protected.
The platform currently focuses on Saudi nationals and residents, and has already had impressive engagement, especially from well-educated individuals.
鈥淎round 30 to 40 percent of our users hold advanced degrees such as master鈥檚 or PhDs. While we expected high participation from major cities, we were pleasantly surprised to see users from nearly every region of the Kingdom,鈥 he said.
Among the many success stories shared by users, one stands out for Alolayan: 鈥淎 couple who met on Awaser married about a year and a half ago, and they recently welcomed their first child.
鈥淗earing that directly from them was incredibly moving, it validated everything we鈥檝e been working toward.鈥
In a culture where family involvement remains a cornerstone of the marriage process, launching a technology-driven platform presented unique challenges. But the public response, Alolayan said, has been overwhelmingly positive.
鈥淭here鈥檚 a clear need, and many people are ready to embrace technology, so long as it honors our values. Awaser allows them to do both.鈥
Umm Abdullah, a user of the app, said: 鈥淎s a mother, I鈥檝e seen how difficult it鈥檚 become to find suitable matches, and approaching someone as the bride鈥檚 parents is not very common in our culture, we usually wait for proposals to come.
鈥淎pps like this give us the chance to actively search instead of just waiting. It feels more efficient, while still respecting our values.鈥
Interestingly, Awaser also provides a space for non-traditional introductions between individuals, allowing for more autonomy in the relationship-building phase.
This dual approach supporting both traditional and independent searches reflects the evolving preferences of younger Saudis who want to play a more active role in choosing their life partners.
Alolayan said: 鈥淭he younger generation increasingly wants to take ownership of their marriage journey in terms of to get to know their future partner before traditional steps begin.
鈥淎waser arrived at just the right time to meet this shift. It offers an alternative that feels modern yet grounded in cultural values.鈥
Another user, Naser Al-Rahman, said: 鈥淚t鈥檚 really hard these days to find a relationship that leads to something serious. Most platforms don鈥檛 feel safe or genuine.
鈥淏ut with this app, I feel like I can search more conveniently and securely, knowing the people here are serious about marriage.鈥
Although Awaser does not currently employ artificial intelligence to match users, Alolayan is open to future possibilities. 鈥淭here is no proven psychological model for perfect matchmaking, which is why we don鈥檛 claim to match people ourselves.
鈥淏ut I do see potential for AI and data analytics to provide smarter tools in the future, based on long-term user behavior.鈥
As 萝莉视频 continues its Vision 2030 journey toward modernization and empowerment, platforms such as Awaser highlight how digital solutions can coexist with tradition.
Commenting on the legal and cultural implications of matchmaking platforms, family lawyer Hassan Al-Ghawi said: 鈥淎pps like these help bridge the gap between tradition and technology.
鈥淎s long as user privacy is protected and the legal framework is respected, they can serve as a positive and legitimate extension of traditional matchmaking.
鈥淭oday鈥檚 younger generation often rushes into relationships, so involving both parents and children in the process allows for deeper understanding and more thoughtful decisions, potentially leading to stronger, longer-lasting marriages and fewer divorces.鈥
