  • 萝莉视频 chased a target of 134 runs in 18.4 overs to end Thailand鈥檚 qualification hopes
  • Thailand was restricted to 133-7 in 20 overs after exceptional bowling from the player of the match, Zain Ul Abidin

萝莉视频 registered their third win in a row in the ICC Men鈥檚 T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier as they beat Thailand by five wickets in Qatar on Tuesday.

萝莉视频 chased a target of 134 runs in 18.4 overs to end Thailand鈥檚 qualification hopes. The Kingdom had a rough start to the tournament with consecutive losses in the first two matches. With this win, 萝莉视频 now have a chance to finish in the top two and qualify for the regional finals.

On Tuesday, 萝莉视频 invited Thailand to bat first at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha. Thailand was restricted to 133-7 in 20 overs after exceptional bowling from the player of the match, Zain Ul Abidin.

The left-arm spinner gave away just 19 runs in his four-over spell with the wickets of Nitish Salekar and Udsak Saranonnakkun, both in the sixth over of the innings. His double wicket meant Thailand slumped to 46-3 in the powerplay.

Opener Akshyakumar Yadav fought a lone battle at the top of the batting order, scoring 60 runs. He hit seven fours and a six in his 51-ball innings. He received little support from skipper Austin Lazarus toward the end. Lazarus hit five fours and a six in his 25-ball 35.

Ul Abidin was supported by two wickets from Abdul Wahid and one each from Ishtiaq Ahmad and Waji Ul Hassan.

In reply, 萝莉视频 lost Wahid in the second over after he was caught behind for just six runs. A centurion in the previous match, Faisal Khan continued his hitting prowess with five fours and a six in his 34-run innings. Siddharth Sankar kept the runs flowing with a run-a-ball 37, which included three boundaries.

萝莉视频 lost wickets at regular intervals, but Manan Ali and Ul Abidin saw them home. Both were unbeaten on identical 13 runs off 10 balls each. Nopphon Senamontree and Sarawit Maliwan took two wickets each while Salekar grabbed a wicket for Thailand.

The other match on the day saw Qatar concede a 29-run defeat against UAE, which means the 萝莉视频 vs. Qatar match could be a winner-takes-all match on the final day. The UAE, on the other hand, have booked their place in the regional finals with five wins out of five. They have an unassailable 10-point lead at the top and will face Bahrain on the final day.

Bahrain themselves are on six points and will need to beat the UAE to have any chance of qualification. The final round of fixtures will be played on Thursday with qualification hopefuls Qatar and 萝莉视频 facing each other. Qatar has eight points and 萝莉视频 has six, meaning a UAE win and their win in the final match will be enough as 萝莉视频 already has a superior run rate to Qatar.

Opener Khan was ecstatic with the result and was focused on the next match. 鈥淲e got the result today and we are happy. Now our focus is on the next match. Like today, the match against Qatar is a final for us and inshallah, we will qualify for the next round,鈥 he said.

The top two teams from this tournament will join the final round of regional qualifiers. Malaysia and Kuwait have already booked their spot from the Asia Group A qualifier, while Samoa and Japan are representing the East Asia-Pacific region. Nepal, Oman, and Papua New Guinea will also compete in the regional finals as they have qualified for the 2024 edition of the T20 World Cup held in the US and West Indies. The regional qualifier will be played in Malaysia in August 2025.

MIAMI: FIFA has opened a disciplinary case at the Club World Cup after Real Madrid defender Antonio R眉diger claimed he was racially abused by Pachuca captain Gustavo Cabral.

R眉diger, who is Black, and Cabral clashed in the final minutes of Madrid鈥檚 3-1 win Sunday in Charlotte, North Carolina.

FIFA confirmed late Tuesday it is formally investigating.

MIAMI: As the expanded 32-team Club World Cup approaches the knockout rounds, one clear highlight has been the electric atmosphere generated by South American supporters, whose passion, volume and spectacle have left their global counterparts in the shade.

Some arenas, particularly Miami鈥檚 Hard Rock Stadium, have been transformed not just by Lionel Messi-mania, but by the sonic boom of Boca Juniors and Palmeiras fans.

Boca鈥檚 blue and gold, as well Palmeiras鈥 cream and green, have filled the stands in roaring, boisterous displays.

Boca fans turned the Hard Rock Stadium into a replica of their La Bombonera home stadium, their chants and celebrations so powerful they made the stands shake, even drawing admiration from Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany.

They stormed Miami Beach for a giant 鈥楤anderazo鈥, grilling, dancing and chanting for hours ahead of their team鈥檚 opening game against Benfica.

While some matches in Cincinnati and Orlando struggled to draw more than a few thousand spectators, Boca and Palmeiras played in front of 60,000-plus fans, creating scenes more akin to Sao Paulo or Buenos Aires than suburban America.

Palmeiras fans brought the flair and noise to their final Group A game against Inter Miami on Monday, where a late 2鈥2 comeback was roared on by their diehards who made the hosts feel like they were on foreign soil.

But beneath the celebrations lurks a rivalry that is becoming one of South America鈥檚 fiercest: Palmeiras v Botafogo.

Though the two clubs hail from different Brazilian cities 鈥 Palmeiras from Sao Paulo, Botafogo from Rio 鈥 fate has thrown them together repeatedly over the past three years.

It began when Palmeiras staged a dramatic surge to snatch the Brazilian league title from Botafogo two years ago, a collapse that stung deeply in Rio.

The following season Botafogo got revenge, knocking Palmeiras out in the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores before going all the way to win the title.

Sunday鈥檚 last-16 showdown in Philadelphia promises to be the fiercest yet and will add another chapter to what is rapidly becoming the defining duel of modern Brazilian football.

鈥橰EAL WORLD鈥
For European clubs used to pristine stadiums and moments of silence, the raw fervor from South America has been a wake-up call.

鈥淚 love when I see Botafogo, all the Brazilian teams, Argentinian teams, how they celebrate, how they are together, I love them,鈥 said Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola.

鈥淚 like how all the games are tight, except one or two, and people are surprised, European teams lose. Welcome to the real world. Welcome to the real world my friends,鈥 he added.

Bayern鈥檚 Kompany echoed the sentiment.

鈥淚鈥檝e had a long career ... that crowd was hostile in the best possible way ... Many fans would pay to watch that,鈥 he said after his team beat Boca Juniors 2-1 last week.

With the US, Canada and Mexico hosting the World Cup in 2026, South American fans are likely to become the beating heart of the tournament with their spontaneous, relentless energy.

Their presence at the Club World Cup has turned the event from a corporate experiment into something electric and alive, and left their European counterparts with something to think about.

  • The traditional pre-season Joan Gamper Trophy match will only mark the stadium鈥檚 partial reopening
  • Barca will have another month to continue work on the new Camp Nou stadium

BARCELONA: Barcelona announced on Wednesday their long-awaited return to the new Camp Nou for an August 10 friendly after years of work to expand and modernize the iconic stadium.

The traditional pre-season Joan Gamper Trophy match will only mark the stadium鈥檚 partial reopening, with construction work continuing in various areas, the current Spanish champions said in a statement.

This includes the completion of the new third tier, the dual VIP ring, the roof installation, interior spaces and development of the stadium鈥檚 surrounding area.

The Catalan giants have not confirmed the initial capacity, but local media reported that the available stands can hold 35,000 fans.

鈥淏arcelona takes a symbolic and emotional step into the future, reclaiming its home in a new era that will culminate with the complete inauguration of the new stadium,鈥 the club said.

Barca will have another month to continue work on the stadium after requesting to play their first three La Liga games of the upcoming season away from home.

After suffering several delays since beginning in 2023, the project dubbed 鈥淓spai Barca鈥 is due to finish in the summer of 2026 and boost the Camp Nou鈥檚 capacity to 105,000.

Barcelona have in the meantime played their home games at the smaller Montjuic Olympic stadium.
