On Friday, the Lebanese government is due to discuss and vote on a plan for Hezbollah’s disarmament. Hezbollah is in a tough spot. The group has been told it must disarm before the US has any “discussion” with the Israelis about withdrawal.

Is it finally happening? Is the West turning against Israel? Or are we, whether motivated by hope or driven by despair, simply engaging in wishful thinking? The matter is not so simple.

What to make of a British political leader who pledges to deport 600,000 immigrants in his first term? That is 120,000 people a year. This would even include doing a deal with the Taliban, a movement the UK was fighting against for so many years, to facilitate deportations to Afghanistan.
