RIYADH: Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman on Sunday attended the signing of a memorandum of understanding to launch the NovusCrete consortium, a global collaboration to develop and accelerate the adoption of sustainable and durable saltwater concrete.
The consortium, led by the Kingdom's Oil Sustainability Program, also seeks to create standards for using seawater in concrete, promote sustainability in construction by recycling waste, extend infrastructure lifespan, and reduce environmental impact.
Leading Saudi organizations taking part in the consortium include the Public Investment Fund, Saudi Investment Recycling Company, NEOM through its Design and Construction Sector, Sika, and ClimateCrete.
The participating parties said they aim to develop sustainable technologies for concrete production, focusing on reducing the construction sector’s carbon footprint and enhancing material efficiency.
They will also improve Ƶ’s construction sector by promoting seawater concrete solutions using local materials.
The signing ceremony in Riyadh was also attended by Yasir Al-Rumayyan, governor of PIF; Saad Al-Qasabi, governor of the Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization; and Khalid Al-Salem, president of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu.
The new consortium includes international organizations, such as the American Concrete Institute.
It aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to balance economic growth and environmental sustainability.

RIYADH: Pakistan’s ambassador to Ƶ has hailed his country’s close security ties with Ƶ.
The Kingdom and Pakistan signed a landmark defense pact last month in Riyadh during Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s state visit to Ƶ.
And Ahmad Farooq, Pakistan’s ambassador to the Kingdom, told Arab News: “Pakistan and Ƶ share longstanding and historic brotherly ties, rooted in our shared faith, common culture, and deep people-to-people connections.
Pakistan’s Ambassador, Ahmad Farooq
“The signing of the Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement is a natural continuation of this enduring fraternal bond. It reflects our shared commitment to enhancing security, promoting peace in the region and beyond, and developing closer defense cooperation.
“Importantly, it also strengthens our joint capacity for deterrence against any aggression.”
The two nations have vowed to protect each other’s sovereignty, and added that “aggression against one country would be treated as an attack on both.”
Farooq said: “The Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement further formalizes the decades-old, robust defense partnership between Pakistan and Ƶ. It will contribute to regional peace, security, and long-term stability.”
The agreement builds on the partnership between Ƶ and Pakistan, and is based on the bonds of brotherhood and Islamic solidarity, as well as shared strategic interests and close defense cooperation between the two countries.
The Kingdom Tower, a prominent landmark in Riyadh, was illuminated with the flags of both Ƶ and Pakistan following the signing of the defense agreement.
Asked about how the agreement would affect economic development between the two countries, the ambassador said: “Economic cooperation … remains dynamic and is continuing on a positive trajectory. Pakistan and Ƶ enjoy a long and distinguished history of brotherhood and cooperation.”
He added: “The bilateral relations are unique, enduring, and multifaceted. The leadership of the two countries shares a common vision to take it to new heights. The relationship lives in the hearts of the people of the two countries. The positive trajectory in defense cooperation is a continuation of a decades-old defense partnership.”
The relationship between the countries, which was established in 1947, has evolved into a comprehensive partnership spanning diplomatic, economic, and military spheres.
The foundation of this bond was laid in September 1947, when Ƶ became one of the first countries to recognize Pakistan following its independence. This recognition was quickly followed by the signing of a Treaty of Friendship in 1951, which formally cemented bilateral ties.
The two nations have engaged in frequent high-level diplomatic exchanges ever since. The first of these state-level visits occurred in 1953 when Ghulam Muhammad, Pakistan’s governor general, traveled to Ƶ.
King Saud reciprocated with a visit to Karachi in 1954 to inaugurate a housing project.
The economic and social dimensions of the relationship deepened significantly from the 1970s to the 1980s, a period that saw a substantial migration of Pakistani workers to the Kingdom.
Individuals, including engineers, doctors, and laborers, contributed to Ƶ’s modernization efforts. It is estimated that the Kingdom is home to over 2 million Pakistanis, who have played a critical role in the development of the country’s infrastructure.

RIYADH: A new exhibition celebrating Ƶ’s rich history of serving pilgrims opened in Makkah on Monday. Organized by the Hadiyah Charity Association, it also showcases ongoing projects that aim to enhance the pilgrimage services the Kingdom provides.
The country’s extensive efforts to serve Hajj and Umrah pilgrims date back to the era of King Abdulaziz and continue through the current reign of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, organizers said.
Hatem Al-Marzouki, chairperson of Hadiyah’s board of directors, said the exhibition reflects the association’s deep sense of pride in the Kingdom’s longstanding dedication to serving the two holy mosques and caring for visitors, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The exhibition is open to representatives of governmental institutions, civil organizations, private-sector entities, and professionals from the Hajj and Umrah sector.
Several major projects in recent years have expanded the capacity of the mosques, provided new accommodation and expanded catering options to better serve the huge numbers of pilgrims who visit the sites each year. Premium amenities are also now available to pilgrims who seek greater comfort, safety and accessibility, including specialized tents and gourmet meals, alongside personal care kits and 24/7 medical support.
New services are regularly introduced. In August, for example, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah launched the digital Nusuk Umrah service, which enables pilgrims living outside the Kingdom to directly apply for an Umrah visa and book services online without having to use intermediaries.
Al-Marzouki acknowledged the crucial support the Saudi leadership provides to the nonprofit sector, which he said enables organizations to fulfill their missions and make a difference to society.
The exhibition is open to representatives of governmental institutions, civil organizations, private-sector entities, and professionals from the Hajj and Umrah sector. Anyone interested in visiting can register and make arrangements through Hadiyah’s communications department.
