JEDDAH: Ƶ’s Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Saleh Al-Jasser reviewed the transport and logistics sector’s readiness for the Hajj season in Jeddah, following earlier inspections in Makkah, Madinah, and the holy sites.

At King Abdulaziz International Airport, he inspected the Hajj and Umrah Terminal Complex and Saudia airline operations, assessing preparations to handle more than 7,000 pilgrim flights and ensure smooth passenger flow.

He also visited the complex’s media center, which supports local and international press coverage by providing a coordinated workspace with essential resources, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Wednesday.

Al-Jasser evaluated the center’s technical and staffing readiness and emphasized full media preparedness for the event.

He then toured Jeddah Islamic Port to inspect Saudi Ports Authority operations supporting pilgrims arriving by sea, the SPA reported.

He reviewed arrival and departure halls equipped with 100 passport counters, 300 luggage carts, a health center offering vaccinations and medical services, and specialized equipment for the elderly and those with medical needs.

MAKKAH: The Ministry of Interior is continuing its efforts to prevent people without Hajj permits from entering or staying in Makkah and the holy sites, warning that violators and facilitators will be arrested and penalized.

Hajj Security Forces at Makkah’s entrances arrested six residents and 14 citizens for transporting 99 individuals without Hajj permits, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday.

In a separate incident, the forces arrested two citizens for transporting 15 individuals in violation of Hajj regulations and attempting to bring them into Makkah.

Penalties include imprisonment, fines of up to SR100,000 ($26,600), the public naming of violators, deportation of residents and a 10-year re-entry ban after sentencing.

The ministry also called for the confiscation of vehicles used in unauthorized transportation and fines of up to SR20,000 for those attempting Hajj without a permit.

It urged full compliance with Hajj regulations to ensure pilgrim safety and reminded the public that entering Makkah between April 29 and June 10 without a permit is prohibited.

RIYADH: Members of Ƶ’s Project Masam removed 1,504 explosive devices from various regions of Yemen last week. 

The total included 1,459 unexploded ordnance, 40 anti-tank mines, four anti-personnel mines and one improvised explosive device, according to a recent report. 

Ousama Al-Gosaibi, the initiative’s managing director, said that 495,855 mines have been cleared since the project began in 2018.

The explosives were planted indiscriminately and posed a threat to civilians, including children, women and the elderly. 

The demining operations took place in Marib, Aden, Jouf, Shabwa, Taiz, Hodeidah, Lahij, Sanaa, Al-Bayda, Al-Dhale and Saada. 

The project trains local demining engineers and provides them with modern equipment. It also offers support to Yemenis injured by the devices.

Teams are tasked with clearing villages, roads and schools to facilitate the safe movement of civilians and delivery of humanitarian aid.

RIYADH: Ƶ’s aid agency KSrelief continues to make a significant global impact, providing critical assistance to some of the world’s most vulnerable communities.

In Sudan, KSrelief distributed 2,037 food baskets in two days to displaced families in Blue Nile State, benefiting 9,671 people.

In Afghanistan, the agency completed the Saudi Noor program to combat blindness in Herat and Balkh provinces, in cooperation with Al-Basar International Foundation.

The volunteer medical team examined 6,894 patients and performed 711 surgeries, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

In Yemen, KSrelief is restoring and rehabilitating houses in Socotra governorate. The project, involving 15 volunteers, will continue until May 31.

The team visited homes and selected some for rehabilitation based on project criteria, according to the report.

In the Syrian Arab Republic, KSrelief concluded a week-long Saudi Amal project in Damascus with 86 medical volunteers.

The projects covered adult cardiac surgery, catheterization, orthopedic surgery, prosthetics and rehabilitation, pediatric surgery, pediatric urology and blindness prevention.

Since its launch in May 2015, KSrelief has carried out 3,435 projects worth more than $7.9 billion across 107 countries, in partnership with more than 317 organizations.

RIYADH: Ƶ’s foreign minister affirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting long-term, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth that includes all segments of society and preserves environmental balance on Tuesday.

Speaking at the inaugural ASEAN-GCC-China Trilateral Summit, Prince Faisal bin Farhan said: “We seek to accelerate the transition to low-carbon, clean, and renewable energy, and to leverage China’s Belt and Road Initiative to support regional connectivity and integration between ASEAN and GCC countries.”

He added: “We also seek to develop the digital economy by empowering startups, expanding public-private partnerships, and enhancing exchange programs between nations to build resilient economies that foster innovation and inclusiveness.”

Prince Faisal explained that the Kingdom, through its Vision 2030 reform program, was committed to fostering an attractive investment environment, facilitating trade, and removing obstacles to commercial exchange.

The Kingdom looked forward to expanding cooperation in all vital areas of common interest between the countries participating in the summit, with the aim of building a long-term strategic partnership that benefits their peoples and strengthens their standing in the international community, the minister said.

Speaking about international issues of interest, Prince Faisal said the Kingdom emphasized the need for collective action to achieve a just and comprehensive solution that guarantees the rights of the Palestinian people in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

“We also share your desire and readiness to make every possible effort to stop the war and reach a sustainable and peaceful solution in Ukraine,” Prince Faisal added.

JEDDAH: The Jeddah municipality is stepping up efforts to adopt a human-centered approach through the Bahja project — an initiative aimed at improving quality of life by transforming open and underused spaces into urban parks.

The project encourages healthier lifestyles and supports the Quality of Life Program under the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 reform plan, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday.

Municipality spokesperson Mohammed Al-Buqami said the initiative is guided by strategic goals, including strengthening the connection between people and their surroundings, promoting healthy cities, increasing opportunities for physical activity, and designing public spaces that reflect local identity.

He said that the project includes the development of five waterfronts and more than 442 parks across the city, which have become popular spots for families and community events.

Walking paths with essential services and safety features have also been introduced to encourage active lifestyles and social interaction, Al-Buqami added.
